Headquartered in Montreal since its inception in 1996, Ciné-Asie is a non-profit arts organization that aims to foster cultural development in Canada and encourage cross cultural dialogue between Canada and Asia through the media of film and video. Recently created Ciné-Asie Creatives will focus on co-production and distribution projects between Asia and Canada.
Our major activities:
Screenings and Events: Ciné-Asie organizes regular screenings of Asian and Asian-Canadian films at the Cinémathèque Québécoise in addition to professional development workshops and panel discussions. We also host an annual Video Portrait Contest held in May and various retrospectives of notable Asian and Asian-Canadian directors.
Distribution: Under the banner of Ciné-Asie Creatives we have started acquiring Canadian films to distribute to Asia and Asian films to distribute within Canada.
Co-production and Location Scouting: Ciné-Asie Creatives is also involved in developing co-production projects between Canada and Asia and providing location scouting services to Canadian productions looking to shoot in Asia.
Mi-Jeong Lee is a South Korean born Canadian independent filmmaker, media and visual artist and writer who currently resides in Montreal, Canada. She is a founder of Cine-Asie, a non-profit media art organization for Asian/Canadian films, a driven forth of its sister company Cine-Asie Creatives, and co-director of Asian Film Programming at Fantasia International Film Festival. Living over 17 years in Canada, she has become a Korean and general Asian film specialist while pursuing her own creative practices.
